This Postgraduate Research and Teaching Certificate (PGRT) programme will equip you with the knowledge of the cellular and molecular basis of cancer, immunology, and cancer therapeutics such as gene editing. PROGRAMME CONTENT

 

The online distance-learning delivery of the course will provide opportunities to receive expertise from the Cambridge Centre for Innovation and Development (CamCID) researchers, material from our partners, and guest lectures.

 

  • Part 1: PCert - Cancer Biology and Immunology Research (4 modules): This 4-week Professional Certificate (PCert) course will provide you the knowledge of the cellular and molecular basis of cancer. It will provide you with the skills to participate in cancer research projects. This course is designed to provide participants with a fundamental understanding of the intricate relationship between cancer biology and immunology. Participants will delve into the mechanisms underlying cancer development, progression, and the pivotal role played by the immune system in detecting and combating cancer cells. The course equips learners with a solid foundation in both cancer biology and immunology, fostering a comprehensive understanding of how these fields intersect.   • Part 2: PCert - Cancer Research and Therapeutics (4 modules): This PCert course will provide you with knowledge of the cellular and molecular basis of cancer therapeutics such as gene editing. This course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of groundbreaking genome editing technologies: ZFN, TALENs, and CRISPR. Participants will explore the principles behind these technologies and their applications in therapeutics. The course aims to equip learners with the knowledge required to navigate the rapidly evolving field of genome editing for therapeutic purposes.   • Part 3: Researchers Training Programme (4 weeks): This unique 4-week online training programme is designed to equip you with the knowledge you need to succeed in your career as a researcher in Biomedical Science. Engage in research activities, exploring ethical challenges and making research presentations. Develop problem-solving skills to identify and address challenges related to academic research.   • Part 4: PCert - Teaching for Researchers (4 weeks): This course will provide you with the knowledge of teaching in Higher Education. It will provide you with the skills to teach and design courses using the latest learning technologies. You’ll also learn about learning principles and teaching approaches. In the first two modules, you’ll develop your core teaching and educational skills including teaching and education in Higher Education and designing a course. In the last two modules, you will learn about the latest teaching and learning tools and how you design your blended-learning course in Higher Education.   • Part 5: Virtual Internship - Research Training (4 weeks): This 4 weeks of virtual training will provide you with research skills through research-based tasks and online guidance during the tasks. You will participate in research activities (tasks and analysis) and apply your knowledge of cancer biology and immunology in research. Develop critical thinking skills to work in an international research environment. You will engage in research skills development tasks to stay current with evolving technologies and applications in the field of Cancer Research.   • Part 6: Research Assistant Position - Online Work (8 weeks): You will work in a voluntary role for 2 months as a Research Assistant at CamCID. It will provide you with further research skills and learning opportunities from other researchers and participate in research tasks. You will participate in online discussions and receive expert feedback on your research work. You will also participate in writing your research paper and receive further feedback to improve your content. You will have the opportunity to utilise your skills and knowledge of cancer biology and immunology in research. This part includes a live mentorship session by a UK academic and a senior researcher, which will provide you with an opportunity to receive career guidance and support during your training. Benefit from their wealth of knowledge, ask questions in real-time and gain insights that textbooks simply can't provide. Learn from other professionals and researchers from other parts of the world through discussion and by analysing their research work, enriching your learning experience and expanding your horizons. This role will be non-paid/voluntary and virtual for 2 months to provide you with practical research experience.

  • This programme starts with a beginner level and progresses towards the mid and advanced levels.
  • This programme is designed for all levels of students (Undergraduate students, Master's degree students, or Ph.D.).
  • All our online courses are taught in English. Therefore, you must have good English language skills.

Certificate of Completion

 

After completing all the parts of this programme, you will be provided with an e-certificate of completion and a virtual internship at Cambridge Centre for Innovation and Development (CamCID).
