PROGRAMME CONTENT

The online distance-learning delivery of the course will provide opportunities to receive expertise from the Cambridge Centre for Innovation and Development (CamCID) researchers, material from our partners, and guest lectures.

  • Module 1: Introduction to cancer immunotherapy: Explore the basic biology of cancer immunotherapy. Explore the fundamental principles of the immune system and understand how it plays a pivotal role in recognizing and combatting cancer cells. Navigate through the spectrum of immunotherapy techniques, from immune checkpoint inhibitors to adoptive cell therapies, gaining insights into how each approach harnesses the power of the immune system against cancer.

  • Module 2: Gene editing in cancer therapy: Uncover the basics of genetics and genomics, laying the groundwork for understanding how gene editing technologies can be harnessed to target and modify cancer-related genes. Dive deep into the revolutionary world of gene-editing techniques, with a particular focus on CRISPR-Cas9 and other innovative tools that allow scientists to precisely edit the genetic code, opening new avenues in cancer therapy. Learn about the biology and processes of gene editing in cancer therapy (ZFN, TALENS, and CRISPR) and cancer immunotherapy.

  • Module 3: Advances in cancer therapeutics: Discover the very latest in cancer treatment studies, where science meets compassion, and groundbreaking advancements become the beacon of hope for patients worldwide. Journey through the spectrum of therapeutic modalities, from targeted therapies to emerging immunotherapies, understanding how each heralds a new era in the battle against cancer. Explore advances in cancer therapeutics and recent developments by reviewing research studies.

  • Module 4: Final Research Project: Apply your knowledge of cancer therapeutics in a final project report. Gain insights into the key components and structure of a project report, including the introduction, discussion, and conclusion. Understand the importance of contextualizing your work within the broader landscape of cancer therapeutics. Develop skills in interpreting research results and relating them to the broader context of cancer therapeutics. Explore effective strategies for discussing both expected and unexpected outcomes. Understand the importance of proper citation and referencing in maintaining academic integrity.
