TRAINING CONTENT

The online distance-learning delivery of the training will provide opportunities to receive expertise from the Cambridge Centre for Innovation and Development (CamCID) researchers and material from our partners.

  • Module 1 - Developing a research proposal: Immerse yourself in the foundational principles of research proposal development, gaining insights into the key components that define a successful research project. Explore the template and methodologies used across disciplines, tailoring your understanding to the unique demands of your field. You will gain knowledge in writing your research proposal. You will develop your research idea in module 1 and learn to develop a research plan for your idea. Master the art of crafting clear, focused, and impactful research questions that lay the groundwork for your entire proposal. Engage in tasks that guide you through the process of refining and structuring research inquiries that drive meaningful investigations. Explore the significance of reviewing literature and a well-defined conceptual framework in providing the theoretical underpinnings of your research. Learn to present your research idea coherently and compellingly.

  • Module 2 - Designing and engineering: This module integrates principles of design with engineering methodologies, aiming to develop a holistic skill set that combines creativity, technical proficiency, and problem-solving capabilities. Fostering an understanding of how design principles can be seamlessly integrated with engineering practices. Cultivating creativity in approaching engineering challenges and devising innovative solutions. In this module, you will gain knowledge and skills in engineering designing, and participate in the task to design an engineering product/equipment/device.

  • Module 3 - Engineering management: It is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively plan, execute, and manage projects in the engineering domain. Understanding the fundamentals of project management methodologies to plan and execute engineering projects efficiently. Learning strategies for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with engineering projects. Gaining proficiency in estimating project costs, budgeting, and financial management. You will learn the principles of engineering project management and gain knowledge to manage projects successfully. You will participate in the project management task during this module.

  • Module 4 - Engineering research project: You will work on a short literature review project and apply your knowledge of your area in your research task. The research project aims to improve your academic writing, research, critical thinking, and literature search skills. The project offers a roadmap to construct literature reviews that resonate with depth, coherence, and scholarly impact. Navigate through databases, academic journals, and other resources to compile a rich array of literature relevant to your research. Develop the skills to critically evaluate research studies, synthesize findings, and identify gaps in current knowledge.
