Overview

 

Postgraduate Research & Teaching Certificate (PGRT) programme will equip you with the knowledge of the cellular and molecular basis of cancer, immunology, and cancer therapeutics such as gene editing along with practical research experience you need to enhance your CV and career or help you get your dream research position. To stay competitive in the field of cancer research, universities and organizations need experienced cancer researchers with knowledge and understanding of cancer biology and therapeutics who use cutting-edge methods like gene editing. This 28-week (7 months) PGRT programme is designed to equip you with the knowledge you need to apply in cancer research. It will train you to perform research in an international research environment. 

 

Through the Research Assistant role, you’ll gain the essential knowledge and skills required to start your cancer research career. This programme aims to provide knowledge of cancer biology and experience of working in a researcher role.

Programme Content

 

The online distance-learning delivery of the course will provide opportunities to receive expertise from the Cambridge Centre for Innovation and Development (CamCID) researchers, material from our partners, and guest lectures. This programme includes three Professional Certificates (PCerts), 4 -week Researchers Training Programme, a virtual internship, and a 2-month research position.

 

Part 1: PCert - Cancer Biology and Immunology Research (4 weeks)

This 4-week PCert course will provide you with knowledge of the cellular and molecular basis of cancer. It will provide you with the skills to participate in cancer research projects.

Part 2: PCert - Cancer Research and Therapeutics (4 weeks)

This Professional Certificate (PCert) course will provide you with knowledge of the cellular and molecular basis of cancer therapeutics such as gene editing. You will gain knowledge about the biology behind ZFN, TALENS, and CRISPR.

Part 3: Researchers Training Programme (4 weeks)

This unique 4-week online training programme is designed to equip you with the knowledge you need to succeed in your career as a researcher in Biomedical Science.

Part 4: PCert - Teaching for Researchers (4 weeks)

This Professional Certificate (PCert) course will provide you the knowledge of teaching in Higher Education. It will provide you with the skills to teach and design courses using the latest learning technologies.

Part 5: Research Training - Virtual Internship (4 weeks)

This 4 weeks of virtual training will provide you with a learning opportunity from researchers at CamCID. It will provide you with research opportunities and professional feedback on weekly research-based tasks and guidance during the tasks. You will participate in research activities (tasks and analysis) remotely and apply your knowledge of cancer and immunology in research.

Part 6: Research Assistant Position - Online Work (8 weeks)

You will work in a voluntary role for 2 months as a Research Assistant at CamCID and It will provide you with a learning opportunity from researchers at CamCID and participate in research. You will participate in online discussions and receive expert feedback on your submitted research work. You will also participate in writing a research paper and mentorship session. You will have the opportunity to utilise your skills and knowledge of cancer biology and immunology in research. This role will be a non-paid or voluntary position for 2 months to provide you with practical research experience. 

 

 

Design and Delivery

 

This distance-learning programme is delivered on Moodle (a virtual learning platform). There is no exam in the PCert courses and virtual internship. However, you will be given different assignments, research-based tasks, and skills development tasks to complete within the given deadline. It is designed by the CamCID researchers (graduates and researchers from multiple high-ranked universities). Learn more about our research groups.

If you have already completed any of our online PCert courses or a virtual Internship included in this programme, fill this form to get a reduced fee payment link. The registration fee cost of your completed course will be reduced from the overall registration cost of this programme. Please note, a copy of your previously completed PCert(s) or virtual internship will be required.

 

 

Entry Requirements

 

PGRT programme starts at a beginner level and progresses towards the mid and advanced level. A minimum of 12 months of undergraduate level education is required in biology, biochemistry, biomedical science, bioscience, medicine, or other relevant areas.

 

English Language

All our online courses are taught in English. You must have good English language skills. However, no official English language certificate or no exam is required to get admitted to this programme.

 

 

Certificate of Completion

 

After successfully completing all the parts of this programme, you will be provided with an e-certificate of completion including details of your virtual internship and research work experience at the Cambridge Centre for Innovation and Development (CamCID).

Q. Do you offer any discounts or scholarships?

A. Unfortunately, we do not offer any scholarships at the moment.

 

Q. Can I complete the PGRT programme along with my full-time work or study?

A. The programme can be completed online part-time along with other full-time studies or work. It will include recorded lectures (our internships do not include lectures) and tasks to complete on your own schedule and the deadline for submission of the tasks will be several weeks. However, it is recommended to give 5-7 hours per week for learning and acquiring research skills.

 

Q. Does it include live mentorship during Research Assistant work?

A. There is an optional mentorship session in the Research Assistant work area. However, the virtual session will be arranged after 17:00 pm UK Time.
