This training will provide you with essential skills and knowledge to become a successful biomedical engineering researcher. It will equip you with the knowledge and understanding of performing literature reviews in areas such as biomedical instrumentation, biomaterials, or biomedical computation. To stay competitive in the field of biomedical engineering, universities and organizations need experienced engineers with research skills and an understanding of ISO 13485 for Medical devices Quality Management Systems, and regulating medical devices in the UK and EU. This 4-week training is designed to equip you with the knowledge you need to apply in biomedical engineering research. It will train you to perform research in an international research environment. 


Through the 4-week virtual training, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills required to participate in biomedical research. It aims to provide essential knowledge for developing your early research career in the biomedical engineering field.




The online distance-learning training will provide opportunities to receive expertise from the Cambridge Centre for Innovation and Development (CamCID) researchers. This internship includes four weeks of research-based tasks.


Week 1: Literature review 

During the first week of your research internship, you will gain experience in literature reviewing and finding articles using research databases and search engines.


Week 2: Developing a research proposal

You will gain knowledge of writing your research proposal. You will develop your research idea in week 2 and learn to develop a research plan for your own idea. 


Week 3: Data analysis and Medical Devices

In week 3, you will learn to perform data analysis and statistical analysis in research. You will be given different research tasks to perform data analysis. Learn about ISO 13485 for Medical devices Quality Management Systems and regulating medical devices in the UK and EU.


Week 4: Research project

You will work on a short literature review project and apply your knowledge of biomedical engineering in your project. The project aims to improve your academic writing, research, critical thinking, and literature search skills.

Entry Requirements


A minimum of 6 months of education in biomedical engineering, biotechnology, biomedical science,  computer engineering, electrical engineering, or other relevant areas is recommended. The mentioned qualification requirement is for guidance and it is required to successfully complete the virtual internship. All our online training and courses are taught in English. You must have good English language skills.

Certificate of Completion


After successfully completing all the tasks of 4 weeks, you will be provided with an e-certificate for completing a virtual internship at Cambridge Centre for Innovation and Development (CamCID).


Delivery and Development


This virtual training is delivered on Moodle Learning platform with a mentorship session included in the internship.


It is designed by the CamCID Research Team (graduates and researchers from multiple high-ranked universities).
